We are super excited that you’re interested in joining us to make a difference in the lives of people who need therapy services abroad!

Whether you are a therapist, therapy assistant, student, or someone interested in the field who wants to help those affected by disabilities, we welcome you.

Therapists and therapy assistants: You are expected to follow the same guidelines as your practice act (or respective state or nation’s legal guidelines to practice).

Therapy students, you may have specific objectives depending on your level of studies. We recommend that you have your university complete an affiliation agreement with us. If you are interested in completing a fieldwork or official coursework rotation through Therapists Without Borders, an affiliation agreement is required.

Non-therapy professionals, you will take on the role of a therapy tech.

Please find details about the volunteer process below. You’ll also want to explore our “Where We Go” section to learn more about each of our destinations and their accompanying fees. You will designate your preferred destination and length of stay in the application below. There is a minimum requirement of one week.

Step 1: Apply here!

There is no fee to apply. (Yay!)

We plan to open applications in early 2019. Stay updated with our newsletter here to be notified with exact dates!


Step 2: Background Check

Once we receive your application, we will reach out to you to confirm receipt. We will then provide you with a link from our partner, Verified Volunteers, to complete your necessary background check, as well as a volunteer agreement. You must sign and return your volunteer agreement before we can schedule you for an interview.

Step 3: Interview

After we receive your volunteer agreement, we will schedule you to complete a video interview with your assigned TWB mentor via Skype, Facetime, Facebook video, or WhatsApp video.

Step 4: Acceptance

During the process of your interview and background check, we will be confirming availability of your requested dates and program site. Upon successful completion of your interview, background check, and availability confirmation, you’ll receive an acceptance letter from us.

Please note: Acceptance does not mean confirmation. To solidify your placement, you must complete steps 5 and 6 at least two weeks prior to your departure date.

Step 5: Orientation

Once accepted, you will receive a volunteer orientation manual that includes our policies and procedures, code of conduct, ethical and cultural guidelines, health and safety precautions, documentation process, packing guide, and more. You must sign and return all requested documents at least two weeks prior to your scheduled departure. Failure to do so may result in cancellation of your placement.

Step 6: Accommodation, Fees, Payment

Payments can be made directly through each program site’s website – They’ve made a special TWB volunteer link just for us! We do not take any money from our volunteers, but we do require a copy of your payment confirmation at least two weeks prior to your departure date.

Please note: Your placement is only confirmed once we receive all of your signed orientation documents and payment confirmation. We, therefore, recommend that you complete these steps more than two weeks prior to your scheduled departure.
